We are proud of our company’s history as James Brearley & Sons was established in 1919. In those early days the original partnership had a single office in Blackpool, Lancashire, the town which remains the home of our Head Office.

Our founder, James Brearley, had made his fortune dealing in cotton mill shares and these, with other local stocks, were the mainstay of the business up to the 1940s. His sons, Ken and Harry joined him in 1945 with Roger, Ken's son, joining the business in 1963.

Over the past 20 years Roger has overseen the expansion of the business and conversion of the partnership into today’s limited company. Although he has now retired, he remains our Chairman.

The Company now employs some 100 people across seven branch offices, our Head Office and Investment Management Division.

What started out as a modest local concern has blossomed to become a major Brokerage offering a wide range of services from traditional stockbroking activities and asset management through to high-tech internet share trading and a funds platform.
