How working with James Brearley could improve the service you offer to your clients:

Our bespoke, Defaqto 5 Star accredited Investment Management Service is delivered by experienced and qualified investment managers, who will construct, manage and administer an investment portfolio with the aim of achieving a consistent performance over the long term, based on your assessment of the attitude to risk and investment aims of your client.
In recognition that a growing number of clients are keen to invest in businesses that have a positive influence on society and the environment, with high standards of corporate governance, it is possible to elect for an “ESG” version of each of our core strategies. We will provide our Investment Management Service to your clients who have a minimum of £50,000 to invest. The Portfolio under our management must be held in our Custody Service.

What returns have we achieved:

To assist you in determining the merits of our Investment Management Service and what returns may have been achieved based on an investment amount, if invested at a certain point in time, we have developed a Hypothetical Returns Calculator. This is based on the latest performance of our core strategies.

Our relationship with you and your client:

We recognise how important our relationship is with you and we commit to providing you with a dedicated individual to manage that relationship.
We provide you with an assurance on client ownership and commit to ensure that the underlying client remains your client at all times by dealing exclusively with you and all communication concerning your client will be between us.
Our Investor Terms document, explains to your client our responsibilities to them in respect of the management and safe keeping of their investment portfolio, along with their compensation rights.

Cash balances:

The rate of interest paid on Cash held in your clients’ portfolios is detailed in the Investment Management Service Charge Card. An element of the interest that we may receive on your clients’ cash balances, will be retained by us.

The prevailing cash balance is not included in the total portfolio value, used to determine our fees as detailed in the charge card below.

Which investment accounts can our Investment Management Service be applied to:

In addition to providing a general investment account, James Brearley is an approved HM Revenue & Customs ISA Manager (Learn more about the James Brearley ISA). It is also possible for us to manage investments your clients may hold in other tax wrappers, where we have a growing number of sub-custodian agreements in place with Offshore Life Companies, SIPP administrators, QROPS and QNUPS providers (Learn more about the James Brearley Managed SIPP). We are also happy to speak to service providers that you use, if we don’t have a custody agreement in place with them. We also specialise in the management of Court of Protection funds and general trust arrangements.

Transfer of your clients’ existing investments into the service:

If your clients have existing investments which you wish to transfer into the service, possibly in a certificated form or those held by another custodian or ISA Manager, we can arrange this for you. Please contact us and we will provide you with the relevant forms to support this.

The time it takes to complete the process, once we are in receipt of the relevant forms and documents, varies by the circumstances in question. However, having established your clients’ holdings, be it by the receipt of supporting certificates and statements or following the formal confirmation of those positions held with another custodian, we would expect the process to typically take around 6 weeks to complete. As a word of warning though, we have experienced longer time lengths than this when dealing with overseas stocks especially when they are certificated.

Whilst investments are in the process of being transferred to us, it is not possible to place trade instructions on them.

Whilst we do not charge for the work associated with transferring your clients’ positions into our service, an existing custodian or ISA Manager, may apply a transfer-out charge. We would expect this to be detailed in their service charge card or your terms of business with them.

Keeping you up to date with the progress of your client’s portfolio:

We will provide you with a detailed quarterly report on the progress of your clients’ portfolio covering the activity over the period and a performance summary which also includes the movement in the appropriate industry-standard benchmark index agreed with you at the commencement of the arrangement. This provides you with the ability to measure the relative future performance of your client’s portfolio and report on this to them.
We will provide you with dedicated access rights to our web portal where you may view an up-to-date valuation of any of your client portfolios under our management 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This facility also allows you to view an historical valuation of a client’s portfolio as at the close of play on any business day and generate a performance report.

Tax related:

Each June, we will provide a Consolidated Tax Certificate and supporting income schedules, along with a Capital Gains Report where appropriate. Hopefully this will assist either you or your clients with the completion of their tax returns.
